Process
Ask yourself or your entrepreneurs
Are you prepared if...
- An investor invites you to make a short presentation on your idea and company.
- You are selected to make a 20-minute pitch to an early-stage investment structure.
- A local TV station wants to interview you and do a short piece on your company.
How PerfectPitchtm came about
After raising venture capital for my last company, I left the for-profit world for what I thought was a “two-year give-back gig” with JumpStart in Cleveland. I was soon assigned to help a fledgling entrepreneur with a solid technology, but limited presentation experience and ability, prepare to compete with five other companies for a single JumpStart funding award. We got it done, he did well, but it was arduous. I realized that I needed a more efficient, process-oriented approach.
Over the course of mentoring literally over 300 entrepreneurial teams, the PerfectPitchtm methodology developed and improved. Today, it not only continues this tradition, but has been modified for other applications, including slide decks for U.S. Air Force SBIR/STTR proposals. PerfectPitchtm helps technology companies get the story straight, make a great presentation and raise the funding they need to grow.
Investor Presentations are a challenge!
High growth investors, whether venture capitalists or other early-stage investment structures, expect a crisp, strongly messaged presentation that tells them:
- How your idea can make them money with explosive growth
- Why your solution matters to customers
- Just enough of your technology to get the “secret sauce”
- How you protect your IP
- Why your team is the one to drive success.
Making it even harder, you will likely have to present all of this in twenty minutes, but be ready to do it in five minutes or an hour. The same old “business plan formula” that you might have learned in school won’t cut it and is likely a ticket to rejection.
So much more than slide preparation and pitch practice
As you prepare for a presentation, having great looking slides is important. So is practicing and honing your pitch.
There is so much more that’s important, however. Testing and evaluating your messaging, ensuring that you can explain and defend your business model and value proposition are extremely important. PerfectPitchtm includes a strong aspect of real-time business planning, ensuring that you are confident and able to answer the difficult questions investors and investment groups ask.
Every detail matters. “Standard” pitch coaching doesn’t cut it. If a pitch preparation process doesn’t include all of the areas depicted to the right, it isn’t doing the job.
PerfectPitchtm - There’s nothing else like it.
The process works
- Immersive- we practice under real conditions
- Iterative-the result gets better as we repeat the process
- Intense- Always friendly, but we ask the hard questions and make direct evaluations
